The site is updated three times per year, with new and updated articles, new tools for navigating content, and improved functionality. December 2011 Update
New to Grove Art
This update features 33 specially commissioned new and expanded articles on the art of New Zealand, developed under the direction of Leonard Bell of the University of Auckland. Highlights include extended discussions of topics such as art and national identity and photography in New Zealand, as well as new and updated biographies of significant figures, including nineteenth-century travel artist Augustus Earle, pioneering modernist Colin McCahon, and acclaimed contemporary artist Shane Cotton. Also new are 70 articles covering everything from Happenings to Native American ledger books, Neo-Geo to public monuments, all from the Grove Encyclopedia of American Art. Finally, December features updated bibliographies for 220 articles on Islamic and American art to support research in everything from Ansel Adams to the Ashcan school. Introducing the Benezit Dictionary of Artists
Oxford is thrilled to bring Benezit online for the very first time. With over 190,000 entries on artists from antiquity to the present day and featuring regular updates, Benezit is one of the most comprehensive and definitive sources on artists in the English language. We are happy to welcome advisory editor Stephen J. Bury, who will work with Oxford editors to guide its growth and development.

New to Benezit
The launch includes 100 entirely new entries on American and British landscape artists, including painters and printmakers of the countryside, the city, and the sea. Learn more about Gregory Gillespie's vibrant landscapes inspired by Flemish old masters, John Wilde's Magic Realist views, and Romantic watercolors by Welsh painter Bert Isaac.
Grove Art Updating Program
A major initiative to update Grove Art content is currently underway, and we invite you to participate. The door is always open. Past contributors are invited to submit updates (especially to bibliographies) to maintain the scholarly integrity of their articles. All users are welcome to suggest corrections, revisions, or new articles. Tell us what you think and help the resource remain vital by emailing the editors at updateGAO@oup.com.
